Development

Low Density - Moderate Pace - High Quality

My development philosophy in Lino Lakes has been consistent:
As a third ring suburb of a major metropolitan area, we will eventually develop but we should get to choose how we develop. Lino Lakes has many very unique features and the residents overwhelmingly like open spaces and a rural feel. We do not need to accept the run of the mill rubber stamp development found in other cities.

Housing Development:
I am for lower density residential development. This kind of vision for housing has allowed us to develop the great Lino Lakes neighborhoods we all live in today. I am also for developing at a moderate pace and making sure development remains at a high quality as required for in our current comprehensive plan. When we develop with lower densities it allows our city to have higher quality building standards and better architectural standards written into our current city ordinances. We worked very hard after our last comprehensive plan was passed to accomplish these higher standards.

This has been what I have been running on and working for in the last 14 years as a member of our city council and as Mayor for the last 4 years. The views of our citizens as seen in our citizen survey, (available to view on this website), matches my vision for Lino Lakes.

Commercial Development:
I favor concentrating our commercial development into a few areas. Two main areas are located off of Lake Drive/35W and Main Street/35E. By concentrating commercial development we will be able to offer our residents what they want and need while diversifying our tax base to keep our taxes low. It will also allow Lino Lakes the ability to keep its current neighborhood feel because most of the commercial development will be confined to just a few areas. As mayor I have promoted a more proactive development process with these commercial areas rather then waiting for development to arrive.

Industrial Development:
This development is also located near the highways and primarily away form residential development. We have a very successful light industrial area in our city off of Apollo Drive and will eventually have another area like this one on the east side of the city off of 35E.
